The online map does not reflect the changes to Highway 52 that occurred during the summer of 2005. Pleasant Street no
longer connects to Highway 52 & now comes to an end in front of the cottage.
If you are traveling on Highway 52, look for St Paul Street or the County 17 exit to the south (right turn if you are
coming from the north) and then a quick left onto Valley Street will take you to your Pleasant Street Cottage.
Travelers from the East: If you are coming from the east (Chicago, Milwaukee, etc.) we recommend
taking Highway 16, a highway designated as a scenic byway from just south of La Crosse. This road winds you through
beautiful bluffs on the edge of the Root River. Our mapping software keeps travelers on Interstate 90 to Rochester
and then brings travelers south on Highway 52, a much longer and not nearly as nice of a route.
Lanesboro & Old Barn Resort:
Our suggestion for traveling to Lanesboro by car. From the cottage, go back to the Highway 52 intersection to the
north but cross Highway 52, staying on County 17. County 17 will wind its way through beautiful countryside, even crossing
the bike trail and connects to County 8 between Fountain & Lanesboro. Take a right turn or go east
on Cty 8 and it will take you into Lanesboro. Total trip is approximately 8 miles.
As a side note, also just off County 17 is The Old Barn Resort, a great place to golf, hit balls on the driving range,
rent a tube and float on the Root River, or enjoy a meal and drink. The renovated barn is quite a landmark. There is
also State of MN land off County 17 with access to the trail, and parking.
Of course we expect you may find the bike trail a better way to see the neighbor towns!
